Spencer McKnight & Mark Turner

Mark Turner , mastermind behind Turner Studios is a familiar face in the music scene in Saskatchewan (and Canada and probably the world).  He's been responsible for bringing world class talent to town and leading the crusade to save the historical Third Avenue Church.  A couple of years ago I photographed him with Danika Lorèn (see her photos here)  and this year he introduced me to Spencer McKnight, another formidable talent in the Saskatchewan classical music scene.  Heading to Nationals soon, Spencer will be performing at a fundraising event this weekend (see details on the poster below). 

 

 

 

The Red and Black Affair

A year in the making, the Red and Black Affair was the highlight of the arts scene in Saskatoon. The gala, sponsored by Cava Wines and Spirits, held at the Delta Bessborough featured a world class menu, the finest wines, Saskatchewan’s best artists, and one of the world’s greatest singers Richard Margison.

Danika Lorèn & Mark Turner (nationally acclaimed artists)

I cried when I first heard soprano, Danika Lorèn sing and pianist, Mark Turner play. It was a little embarrassing because I was in a room full of professionals, Opera supporters and generally cultured people. (but not so embarrassing that I won't begin this blog post with the fact). I have photographed Danika and Mark through various Saskatoon Opera related events and by the time we met to do this photoshoot0 to promote their concert it was a curious thing to capture their unyielding talents mixed with their BIG BIG personalities. Congratulations to them both. Danika (accompanied by Mark) won Nations (voice) and continues to bring audiences to their feet (and to tears) as she performs and pursues her studies in Toronto. Mark is home-based and teaches out of Saskatoon.
