Kevin Hastings: quietly going about being awesome.

this is Kevin.  He's a brilliant artist.  He's cool.  He loves his kid, and speaks highly of his wife.   He's renovating an old church into a home/studio/cafe.   He's also spokesperson for The Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program with North Saskatchewan Independent Living Centre (NSILC).  NSILC asked me to photograph Kevin in his environment for their recent promotional campaign.

When in his twenties, Kevin was diagnosed with ADHD and only regained his creativity when, through the support of family and friends, he went off Ritalin. He also credits the Northern Saskatchewan Independent Living Centre (NSILC, Saskatoon) for giving him aptitude and career testing, and for offering small group seminars on bookkeeping that prepared him to meet the challenges of being a self-employed artist.

I don't know Kevin all that well but I do know that after meeting him, I couldn't wait to meet his wife and son, to see the fruition of his hard work as an artist and dreamer.  I am posting this blog three days after the tragedy in Sandy Hook, USA.  When I logged onto Facebook to grab a couple of details about Kevin to share with you.  This was this was post for the day:

This is what I choose to focus on. The world needs more love.

That's just the kind of guy he is.

grace & company

grace & company is a Saskatoon owned on-line retail shop that works with retailers to bring you amazing prices on their Overstock & Sale items. All items are 100% guaranteed authentic, brand name pieces.

Unlike other online stores you don't have to be a member to enjoy great prices at Grace & Company.  I just took a peak and there are some amazing pieces at ridiculous prices, some perfect for day, some perfect for your up-coming warm winter holiday!
I was commissioned this Fall to capture some lifestyle branding images for the company`s upcoming campaigns.

The Tree, Branching Out in Saskatoon

I adore Sandra Epp, the owner of Art @ Will, previously Willow Studio.  I'd post about her show, even if she wasn't showing my work (which she is).  Sandra's "tree" inspired and themed shows of the past are huge hist and I have no doubt that the new twist will be anything short of hugely successful too.  Pop by and take a peak.

the TREE show this Sat at Paddock.  opening show and sale: this Saturday 2-5 at 148 2nd Ave n, Saskatoon (the old Willow Studio)

Creekside Christmas

Creekside Country Home and Decor is a little gem on 29th Street West In Saskatoon (Ave P and 29th).  Summer or winter, Doris' beautiful store full of everything country white and folksy will delight BUT it's Christmas where Doris and her staff really shine.  They create a Christmas wonderland that rivals my favourite Christmas stores in Banff and Victoria.  Antiques and handmade furniture can be found at this location and at the Creekside in Delisle.  Check it out, tell Doris I said hi!

Graham Girls

Does my Arbonne business take away from my photography business?  Quite the opposite, in fact, I met the Graham girls mother at one of my first Arbonne training shows!

W. Brett Wilson: Redefining Success

Early last spring, I received an email from Brett Wilson, Canada's favourite entrepreneur and philanthropist asking me to work on a project for the marketing of his upcoming autumn book launch.  I travelled to Calgary for a full day shoot in Brett's home and the Prairie Merchant offices.  Working with a team of unparalleled excellence, we covered off  MANY different wardrobe changes, looks and locations.  Brett even went for a haircut while the rest of us broke for lunch!  Many people have asked me many questions about Brett since this shoot and I think my best recommendation to you is read his book.  (schedule of his book tour here) He's forthright, funny, fair and frankly-brilliant. At first I was going to include a list of publications in which these images have appeared but that list has become long, very long.

Brett's new book is entitled "Redefining Success: Still Making Mistakes" (a concept I can relate to) and when you get to the bottom of this post you will see a few of the "Things Mistakes Have Taught Me (Brett)" These quotes can be downloaded as wallpaper or Facebook photo covers or to share with friends.  Signed prints (by Brett, not me) are also available.

Thanks Brett for this opportunity.
